Welcome to the Escaping Darkness Book Blast Giveaway! Join us as we celebrate the release of Theresa McClinton’s newest novel, Escaping Darkness!

Theresa_McClinton_author_photoA long time enthusiast of things that go bump in the night, Theresa started her writing career as a journalism intern—possibly the least creative writing field out there. After her first semester at a local newspaper, she washed her hands of press releases and features articles to delve into the whimsical world of young adult paranormal romance.

Since then, Theresa has gotten married, had three terrific kids, moved to central Ohio, and was repeatedly guilt tripped into adopting a menagerie of animals that are now members of the family. But don’t be fooled by her domesticated appearance. Her greatest love is travel. Having stepped foot on the soil of over a dozen countries, traveled to sixteen U.S. states—including an extended seven-year stay in Kodiak, Alaska—she is anything but settled down. But wherever life brings her, she will continue to weave tales of adventure and love with the hope her stories will bring joy and inspiration to her readers.

This is the sequel to McClinton’s debut novel The Stone Guardian, and it is hitting stores today, and we’d love to kick off this date with a giveaway!

As an extra treat, Theresa McClinton has provided an excerpt from Escaping Darkness:

Rays of morning sun crept through the windows of Tara’s hotel room. She was already awake, frozen in bed and staring at the entrance. Harsh whispers echoed from the hall paired with rushed footsteps on the carpeted floors beyond the door. She gripped the blanket, her heart pounding in anticipation.

She flung the covers aside and hurried across the room. The knob rattled followed by several sharp pounds. She peered through the peephole before swinging open the door. Renato rushed in with a limp Hawa hanging in his arms.

“Oh my god! What happened?”

Renato laid Hawa on the bed. Black hair spilled over her face as she moaned.

Peter stumbled into the room, his eyes glossed over with sleep. Renato glanced over his shoulder and waved him over. “We need your help.”

Tara’s chest tightened while she stared at them. “Where’s Ashley?” Renato glanced at her and then back to Hawa without a word. Tara stepped forward, a knot forming in her stomach. She gripped the bedpost, her legs beginning to feel like mush. “Mr. Renato, what happened to Ashley?”

“She’ll be fine,” Peter said while examining Hawa’s bandaged leg. “I don’t sense any breaks or fractures. No lesions.” He stared up at Renato. “What the hell happened?”

Renato paced, rubbing the five o’clock shadow that darkened his chin and jawline. “Sarian was much stronger than we anticipated. When Ashley tried to retrieve the stone, he somehow sensed her, even with the masking spell.”

Figures. Tara knew it was bad news when that witch offered to help. She hated the idea from the start, but being outnumbered and a girl with no abilities to contribute, she thought it better to keep her mouth shut and let Renato and Ashley make the final decision. The masking spell could have been a dud. For all they knew, Contessa might have wanted Ashley dead to take her stone. The witch only helped to get revenge on Sarian in the first place. Who knows what other motives she had. Tara still wasn’t sure of the extent of the stone’s power, but since every underworlder seemed to want to get their hands on it, it had to be capable of some unworldly things.

“Who healed Hawa?” Peter asked.

“Contessa. At her home.” Renato glanced at his watch. “We arrived back less than an hour ago.”

“Well, it looks like she did a decent job.” Peter laid the back of his hand against Hawa’s forehead. “No fever. I think she’s just exhausted. We should let her sleep.”

Tara let go of the bedpost, anger peeling away her layers of patience. There was no way she’d let them keep ignoring her. With her fists perched on her hips, she glared at them. “If someone doesn’t answer me in the next two seconds, I swear I’m going to flip the hell out.” They both stopped and stared at her. Tara swallowed. “Where’s Ashley?”

Anger was as good as any other emotion right now—better even, since it kept her blood rushing fast enough to prevent her from passing out if the news was grim.

Renato gave a deep exhale. “Tara.”

The way he said her name sucked the heat right out of her body.

She wound her fingers into her mess of red curls. “Oh God. What?”

“Please don’t panic,” he continued. “She is not hurt.”

Tara exhaled a calming breath and gestured toward the door. “I’m gonna go talk to her.” When she took a step forward, Renato stepped to the side, cutting off her path. She stared up at his tight face. “I’ll be right back. I just want to go see how she’s holding up.”

“Tara.” But when he said her name the second time, his tone hadn’t changed, and the look in his eyes told her something was wrong. He ran his fingers through his hair, smoothing it down. “She’s not here.”

“What do you mean she’s not here? You said she’s all right.”

“Yes, that’s true.”

Tara shifted her weight. “Well, where is she?”

“She and Arwan left to get Jayden back.”

“Back?” Tara scanned the room. In all of the chaos, she hadn’t noticed Jayden wasn’t there. “Is he pulling another stunt to win Ashley over?”

“I don’t think that’s what’s going on this time,” Peter said.

“Sarian is stronger than we realized.”

“But…” Tara shook her head. “I don’t understand.”

“Jayden was killed in battle.”

She felt like someone had kicked her in the chest. “What?” She gasped, her bottom lip quivering with her voice. She had known Jayden almost as long as Ashley, and even if they weren’t as close, he was her friend. She swallowed past the ache in her throat.

Peter took her hand.

“She and Arwan rushed to Guatemala,” Renato continued. “To the caves of Naj Tunich.”

She tightened her grip on Peter’s hand while suspicion crawled over her. “Ashley hates caves. Why would she want to go there?”

“Ashley was determined. I attempted to convince her it was a dangerous, reckless idea, but she insisted. She and Arwan traveled to the caves to find Houn—the Guardian of Souls. She has the insane thought that they can get Jayden’s soul back in time.”

Tara pulled away from Peter, grabbed Renato’s collar, and jerked him forward. “Are you trying to tell me that my best friend is going to meet up with the Grim Reaper?”

Renato stared down at Tara’s fingers clenching his shirt.

She let go of his collar. “I want proof. Ashley wouldn’t just take off like that. Not without telling me first.”

Renato straightened his posture while smoothing out the wrinkles in his clothes. “I managed to rent a cold chamber for Jayden’s body in the local morgue.” He paused, watching her skeptical stare. His lips pressed tightly together. “If escorting you to see his body is the only way to convince you I am being honest, that is certainly an option.”

Tara took a step back. “Oh my God. You’re serious.”

“Unfortunately, yes. If Ashley and Arwan cannot retrieve his soul before Houn places it, the morgue is where Jayden’s body belongs. Either way, we need to preserve it the best we can.”

“Preserve?” She choked on the word and slowly lowered herself to the mattress beside Hawa’s feet.

Peter tucked a curl behind Tara’s ear. “It’ll be all right.”

She wanted to believe him, but something in her gut told her it wouldn’t be that simple. “Jayden’s dead and…Ashley didn’t even say goodbye. What if—” Her breath caught in her throat. “What if I never see her again?”

One moment -squeals in a corner- CAN’T WAIT!

Renhala – Book Tour Review and Giveaway

RenhalaTourBanner

Welcome to one of the first stops on Xpresso Book Tours for Renhala by Amy Joy Lutchen~!

Renhala

Title: Renhala [#1 Renhala]
Author: Amy Joy Lutchen
Publication: September 27th 2012
Genre: Adult Fantasy
Goodreads – Renhala [#1 Renhala]

Synopsis:

Kailey Rooke, timid accountant, dedicated to philanthropic work, finds herself spiraling into a deep depression after she suffers a horrifyingly odd and humiliating assault, to only discover more of these freakish assaults occurring across the globe.

A chance discovery leads Kailey to a meeting with elderly Gunthreon, actual master of persuasion. Gunthreon, who seems to know too much of Kailey’s history for her liking, opens Kailey’s eyes to a coexisting realm she never knew existed: Renhala, while entrusting her with the knowledge of her newfound power as karmelean, serving as a beacon to the Higher Ones. Kailey slowly starts revealing new talents, and Gunthreon is fascinated with what she starts achieving.

She soon discovers that Renhala is in danger, and this danger has been leaking into her own realm. As she uncovers secrets within herself, and attempts to toughen up, she fuses with an unlikely band of fellow travelers (including a dragon, woodsprite, six-hundred-pound greble, her faithful female canine companion, and a ”giver”), falls into an unexpected love triangle, deals with her sexy and flirtatious best friend’s “issues,” and finds the courage to master a new deadly weapon.

On her mission to save Renhala, Kailey will find herself running from life-threatening disasters, such as greble Tartarin, who likes to remind Kailey that when he catches her, he plans on eating her brains with ice cream; she’ll run from the deadly meeples: small cute bunnies with talons and an undeniable thirst for imposing self-destruction on others. Kailey will also run into the possibility that a centuries-old Renhalan rumor is true, that advanced technology existing in Kailey’s realm shortens all life spans.

As blood is shed and puzzles near completion, Kailey pulls from deep within herself, conjuring up mystical qualities that enable her to astonish as once predicted at her birth, but despite the newfound strength, Kailey will discover that monsters not only come in ugly packages, but can be easily disguised as those she has come to love and trust.

Hey all, it’s been a while, eh? Not since I last posted, maybe, but definitely since I last wrote an actual review (note, my last one was queued). I actually forgot how I format these things… Anyways, I have a treat for you today, but first, my review:

I really enjoyed this novel, overall, it was exciting, it had action, and Amy Joy Lutchen’s world-building is fantastic. However, I didn’t quite enjoy some of the writing, or the main character. Throughout the novel, I felt a disconnect between myself, the main character, and her actions, especially at the beginning ’cause I didn’t have a clue as to what was going on. I must say though that as the book went on, I grew to like Kailey, though in all honestly, I liked the supporting characters a lot better.

Ladimer, oh sweet Ladimer. I am in love with him. I felt his character’s pain and joy more than I did Kailey’s. Reading about Ladimer, Gunthreon, Conner, Russell, and all the other supporting characters really brought various personalities to the table and excitement to the novel, as did the dragon and the six-hundred-pound greble mentioned in the synopsis. In my opinion, the supporting characters made the book. Through Kailey’s eyes we see a lot more of their history than we do of hers. I wish that Lutchen had showed more of Kailey’s training, or gave a straight description of her attack. As it is though, you get an overall sense of her fear and anxiety, of her attack and the scars it left on her, both mentally and physically. Lutchen went through the motions, but I wish there had been something more gripping about all of it.

Back to all the secondary/main-ish characters, I loved Lutchen’s ability to create such intricate histories, weaving all of their past and present together well. Authors who manage to do this always leave me in a state of awe, and I can’t help but admire them for their talent. In addition to this, Lutchen created characters that were all different. Not one character shared the same story, not the same personality as another. Kailey’s friends were all diverse in species, power, and personality. I find that many authors have trouble with this and tend to recreate their characters over again, sometimes within the same novel, other times within others. I liked that each character brought something new to the table, whether it was their own history, or a tale about the land, these characters are what really captivated me and pulled me into the book.

Something that drew me in completely (before all the wonderful characters jumped in to save the day) was the idea of Renhala, with Neda and Velopa, as well as Lutchen’s ideas behind the creation of our society. On top of the stories told about the creation of Renhala and our world, there is the world of Renhala itself. I loved the descriptions and how this mythical world popped out of the pages. Everything, from the scenery to the odd species and creatures to the magical lakes and the magical skills, captured me and pulled me into the pages of the book.

Overall, I really enjoyed Renhala, though the cliffhanging end is now taunting me. Lutchen has the ability to weave together her characters’ histories, past lives, and present actions, creating captivating characters, and new, unexplored worlds. I just can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel, Golden Dunes of Renhala, which is to be released sometime this year.

Day 13 – Your Favourite Writer – Kelley Armstrong

One day, probably sometime in August or something, I’m going to finish this supposedly thirty day challenge (which I had extended to a fifty day challenge for some odd reason, that is really inexpicable, seeing as I wasn’t doing great with thirty days, and fifty is like infinity for me ’cause I’m so darn inconsistent with my posts). Okay, stepping away from my inability to be a star blogger, here’s author number four.

  1. Kelley Armstrong
The Summoning came out the summer right before high school, and to be honest, after I read that, I needed more. I started searching up all of Kelley Armstrong’s novels, and became determined to read it all. Alas, I have yet to TOUCH one of her Women of the Otherworld books, let alone READ them. However, five years later, I just finished her novel, The Rising, and I think I am going to really miss the Project kids. Though, as much as I love it, I also can’t wait to start reading her new Age of Legends series (which is out in 2014), and maybe even start her adult series (now that I actually am an adult, haha).

    Picture1

I loved Armstrong’s characters in the Darkest Power Trilogy and the Darkness Rising Trilogy, mainly ’cause they were relatable and although not exactly as I had, they went through similar problems, like shyness, like getting picked on. I also loved the growth of the characters, especially Chloe, as the books went on, they all matured and grew with the reader. I also appreciated Armstrong’s writing style ’cause I didn’t have to dig through dictionaries to figure out what was going on.

Kelley also maintains a great connection with her readers through Twitter, Tumblr, and her website. Something that I really like about Armstrong is that she takes the time to release little shorts and novellas between books, and sometimes even after the series ends, so it never feels like the characters’ stories are really done. Not many authors release as many novellas and shorts as Armstrong does, and I really give her props for that, haha ~

Clockwork Princess

Title: Clockwork Princess [#3 The Infernal Devices Trilogy]
Author: Cassandra Clare
Synopsis:

Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy. Tessa Gray should be happy – aren’t all brides happy?
Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute.
A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa’s heart, will do anything to save her.

Okay to start this off, I must note that this was probably the best possible conclusion Cassandra Clare could have made for this trilogy. I just can’t… Jem… and Will… and Gabriel… but THAT DAMN WAYLAND. I JUST…. ALL MY FEELS.

Before you begin the book, I have two suggestions for you.

1. DO NOT LOOK AT THE FAMILY TREE. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT LOOK AT IT. NOT EVEN A GLANCE. ‘CAUSE THAT WILL RUIN EVERYTHING.
2. Brace yourself.

We left demon pox, yin fen, and a number of things hanging there at the end of Clockwork Prince, and this is where we start from in Clockwork Princess. Apparently, demon pox doesn’t just stop at making your skin funny. I was as surprised as everyone else (save for Will) about what happens to Benedict Lightwood. Let’s just say it’s gets a little slimy. But can I just mention that Cecily is a freaking badass. She just OWNS it out on the field and as annoying as I found her, I also couldn’t help but respect her. Her character really grew on me as the book went on.

OH MY GOD THOUGH can we just talk about Gideon. His character is adorable in this book. He was just not meant to be a suitor, but by Jove, when it came down to it, his speech and declaration of love was just perfect. -sighs happily-

Then there’s Gabriel. LORD knows that kid needed some taming. But I was really proud of both him and Gideon in this book. They really proved themselves in my eyes, and their characters really came out in this novel.

THEN THERE’S CONSUL WAYLAND. CAN HE JUST … well… But honestly, he was such a HUGE douche in this novel. From him, we don’t even really see him much. Most of his ‘appearances’ are in letters going between him and the … Clave? was it? But yeah, just from LETTERS, I was extremely pissed off at his character. How did we go from this douche to the ‘kind’ Michael Wayland that everyone talks about in TMI?

Anyways, on to what you really want to hear. Jem or Will? Honestly, I’ve always been team Jem ’cause he’s just so sweet and perfect and stuff, but then Will is reckless and sometimes a douche too (“but he’s like that ’cause reason!!”). Yeah, yeah, I know, but he didn’t click for me. However, in this book, I really couldn’t hate either of them. They were so damn perfect in every respect I just couldn’t… but then Jem… and then Will… and the Silent Brothers… worm… yin fen… Mortmain… UGH. I JUST COULDN’T HANDLE IT.

AND OH MY GOD… WILL… AND… UGH… THAT HURT MY HEART. AND THEN JEM… AND THE BRIDGE AND UGH….

But honestly, what slayed me was the damn epilogue. THAT. FUCKING. HURT. CASSANDRA. CLARE.

MOVING ON TO EVERYTHING ELSE THOUGH. I like how Cassandra tied everything together in the end. We understand the clockwork angel, we understand Mortmain (kind of… there’s only so much you can understand about someone if they’re like him…), and we get to see who Tessa does and doesn’t end up with. Here’s a hint. It’s not…. BENEDICT. ‘Cause… honestly, ain’t nobody want to get with that…

In all seriousness though, I absolutely loved how Clare tied it all off. And then she also cliffhangered it for TDA, which I think is pretty darn devious. In my honest opinion, Clockwork Princess has topped my list of favourite fantasy novels. Amazing book and amazing story. Absolutely loved it ~

Also, once you’re done reading, I found this video extremely entertaining and totally relatable after:

Day 13 – Your Favorite Writer – Marie Lu

Have I ever told you how much work university is? Has the rest of the world? Well, neither of us lied. I’ve been studying, writing notes, and finishing assignments for the past two weeks almost non-stop. (she said two weeks ago). I’ve been studying like crazy for exams. I now have a week until my last one and then I’m FREE~ On a side note, I read Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare? Yeah… BEST. FANTASY. BOOK. EVER. The Infernal Devices may just be my favourite fantasy series now… The ending was just perfect, heartbreaking but at the same time absolutely perfect.

Also, remember when this was called a 30 day challenge? 60 days later I’m still on day 13.3… Yup, yup, I’m good at this.

Alright, enough chitter chatter, moving on to author number three ~

  1. Marie Lu
Another new author love of mine, but it’s well earned. Last year, I saw this book Legend in my school library. I worked there, and it was just going through processing, so it was literally brand new and just placed in a perfect plastic covering that made it silver and gold jacket shine in the light. I knew my sister had wanted to read it, so I checked it out, and brought it home. I started reading it on the bus, and instantly got sucked in. I loved it so much that I wouldn’t even give it up to my sister. It was just that good. I fell in love with June and Day, and Prodigy hasn’t disappointed me.I love Marie Lu for more reasons than just her books.

Before becoming an author, Marie Lu was an Arts Director for a video game company. This struck me for two reasons. The first, it showed me that sometimes, finding something you love to do and are good at takes time, and it’s okay to go from one job to another after university. The second, she was an arts director for a video game company. I’m sorry, but if that isn’t cool, I don’t know what is.

I think the thing that stands out most about Marie Lu’s books is the world she created. Many authors forget that setting is a big part of the reading experience. Marie Lu shows us the differences between our worlds, describes the buildings, the people, the clothing, the food. We get a full experience of her world as we follow June and Day’s lives. It’s true that her characters are strong, in personality and in being, but I really like the way the books’ world stand out and is memorable and imaginable.

So yeah, lots of love goes to Marie Lu ~ I really hope that her novels grow in popularity (even though I love that they aren’t popular at the same time…)

If you haven’t read her books yet, you seriously have to check ‘em out !

What’s New?

30 day challenge, eh? Yeah that hasn’t been going so well. Do not fret, I do plan on completing it, but it’ll probably have to wait until after exams.

Can I just take a moment to fan girl over some of the books I’ve completed recently!?

CLOCKWORK PRINCESS WAS FREAKING FANTASTIC OH MY GOODNESS. MY HEART… ALL THE FEEEEELS @_@… In summary, the book was perfect, the trilogy was perfect. Everything was perfect… except for Benedict Lightwood… and Consul Wayland… they weren’t so perfect….

AND SPEAKING OF SERIES… I FINISHED THE RISING BY KELLEY ARMSTRONG TWO DAYS AGO… IT WAS PERFECT TOO… /rollsaroundinperfection. DJSKAJDLSKDLSKDLDK JDKJLJAHKDJDKAJ DJHSKJ I JUST CAN’T TELL YOU HOW MUCH I LOVED THIS BOOK DSKJDKDKK…

Okay, caps moment over.

Reviews for those books and many other will be made after I finish my four exams next week /dies.

On another note… COVER REVEALS ~

I’m sure there are a billion other book covers out there to show off… but I haven’t really been “out there” for a while /foreverinmydormroom.

On another note, I’m currently reading:

Anyways, I have A LOT of notes to make…

Have fun reading !~

Day 13 – Your Favorite Writer – Cassandra Clare

Today, Clockwork Princess hit bookstore shelves. In honour of that, the next author I’ll be talking about is…

  1. Cassandra Clare
In contrast to Tammara Webber, Cassandra Clare captured (as well as tore through, shredded, shattered, and then mended (repeat x 481287)) my heart about five years ago. I was first introduced to City of Bones back in grade eight by a friend of mine. She had borrowed it from the library and thought it’d be fun to read it to us, kind of start the book together. Flash forward five years, and here I am with Clockwork Princess patiently waiting on my e-reader. Needless to say, I loved the books.tmi-books

The thing I loved about Clare’s books was her ability to create her world, not just because she plopped it right into the middle of New York, but the fact that she was able to integrate it well into the city. She had a place to put all the hidden worlds, and I thought that was ingenious. Also, I loved the idea of shadowhunters, the demons, the vampires, the everything supernatural. They all made an appearance in her books, and I thought that was pretty darn cool.

    tid-books
Then she made this trilogy, and I fell in love with the characters. In my opinion, I liked the Infernal Devices better than the Mortal Instruments… but that’s just me. ANYWAYS, placed in old England (?), the plot was interesting and different, and the characters are all broken in some way, and GDI… READING THIS TRILOGY HURTS… BUT I LOVE IT SO MUCH -flails- I can’t wait to get started with Clockwork Princess, but I must work a little bit first… darn school.

BACK TO CASSANDRA CLARE. I love her characters, her worlds, her plots. It all fits together so well (and I especially love Magnus~). Clare is creating another shadowhunter trilogy once City of Heavenly Fire is done and the dust has settled. Honestly? I’m kind of on the fence with the idea. I love her shadowhunter novels, but at the same time I’d love to see her move on to new ideas with new characters and new concepts. I don’t know… but yeah, huge fan ~ And I hope to one day go to one of her signings -crosses fingers- hehe ~ HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY TO CLOCKWORK PRINCESS ~

Day 13 – Your Favorite Writer – Tammara Webber

-University chews me up and spits me out- HEY! THAT WAS MY SHOE!

Alright, it’s been a while, and I’m sorry. University’s busy. LIKE REALLY BUSY.  Just in this coming week, I have two projects due, a test, a quiz, and a movie and poetry analysis. THAT’S JUST FOR THIS WEEK! ANYWAYS… Moving on…

In all honesty, this is an impossible task. To choose my favourite writer or author is like telling me to choose my favourite blade of grass among billions of other similar, yet totally different, blades.

Okay, that may not be the most amazing comparison, but I’m being serious… I just can’t do that… make the choice that is. Well, I don’t do similes or metaphors well either, but that’s a story for another day.

So instead of choosing one among the many and trying to prove that they’re finitely better than all the other authors in existence (when there are likely many who are equally amazing), I’ll just list a number of my favourites for you… Let’s go with ten twenty, with no particular order ’cause that would make my life even harder.

I’ll post them one at a time ’cause I don’t want to just create a giant wall of text talking about my not-so-real crushes on authors.

ALRIGHT, LET’S GO !

  1. Tammara Webber
I’ve been a fan of Tammara Webber for only a short time, but I’ve read every book she has published and I absolutely loved each and every one of them.First off, for all those who’ve followed me for a while, you know I basically stopped reading because of her novel Easy. I probably read it three or four times now, and still love every part of it.What I haven’t written about is her Between the Lines series.

    Untitled
At the moment there are three books, the fourth coming out in August. So this series had, like, for main characters.

    Graham
     - the nice guy, who’s just perfect in every way. Like there is nothing about him that I don’t like.
Emma – the nice girl, who has her flaws, is a little selfish/self-centered, but not obnoxiously so. Otherwise, she has great morals, thinks friends over guys (most of the time), and is a great female lead character
Reid – the douche, he sleeps around, drinks and parties like crazy and usually couldn’t give to flying flies about other people’s feelings.
Brooke – Reid’s ex. She’s the nice turned bitchy turned… I don’t know what now. I’m sure Webber will tell her story one day, but until then, my opinion stands.
Dori – a good girl, who you won’t meet ’til the third book. She volunteers for charity projects, goes to church and all that (her dad’s the priest), etc. She’s awesome though !

ANYWAYS. I love Webber’s writing, and I love that she started out basically a self-published/indie author. Gives me hope. Easy is now in stores though, being sold to people everywhere (okay probably not, but still). I hope, one day, the Between the Lines series will be released in hard copy books ’cause it’s an awesome series.

I think the thing I love most about Webber’s books is her character development. We’ve got Reid, the ultimate douche, in Between the Lines and then we see him grow and change through the second and third. We’ve got Jaqueline in Easy, who we meet when she basically is going emo ’cause her boyfriend broke up with her, among other things, and we see her grow and mature through the book. I love Webber’s ability to make her characters grow, yet still keep their initial personality in tact. I also love that her stories deal with real life problems that just aren’t addressed often enough.

But yeah, anyways, I really love Tammara Webber so far, and I can’t wait to read then next installment to Between the Lines ~

Day 12 – A Book You Used To Love But Don’t Anymore

-gets chewed up by university and then gets spit back out- well that was a good week… or well.. not.

I had to think really hard about this because I love a lot of book and there aren’t many that have dropped from the ranks. However, this one series has.

Many have heard of L.J. Smith and if you haven’t and you watch The Vampire Diaries then I kinda really want to kick you in the face right now.

Anyways, as popular as The Vampire Diaries has been, her other series have been neglected. One series in particular, The Night World Series. Despite what the info for Strange Fate says, the series has yet to be finished. This bothers me immensely, and it’s not just the fact that I’ve been waiting seven years for this book, it’s the fact that everywhere decided to put dates that were lies. Either it looked like the book had been published way back when, or it looked like the book was supposed to come out in 2011… then 2012… then 2013… and now 2015? I think was the new date.

Now, do I really NEED this last book? No, it’s not an intense, soul-eating need for the last book that led me to the fallout with the series. It’s the fact that every story is kind of the same but different. However, it’s that innate sameness that bothers me. Although that’s kind of the point of it all, it still strums the wrong chord with me. The repetition got boring and the stories predictable, and various characters drove me up the wall. Yes, I do appreciate some of the badass female lead characters, like Jez and Rashel, but the needy ones, well I wanted to punch ‘em, figuratively in the face. This revelation is new to me though. I recently re-read the series, and these characters grated at my nerves, and some of the writing was very elementary while other parts just didn’t flow right. When Smith got it right, she got it right, but when she didn’t… well those were the stories I just couldn’t get through.

Do I hate the series? No. Do I still adore them as much as I had in seventh grade? Yeah… no.

I’m still waiting on the last book though, because I did enjoy The Vampire Diaries. Maybe her writing has advanced some, or her characters had improved infinitely… or maybe this one just won’t be so darn predictable.

For Writers Who Can't Seem To Finish A Novel

Reblogged from Teens Can Write, Too!:

So I know a lot of you have written complete novels in the past and finishing is not a problem for you, and that's great. However, I've been noticing a lot of people struggling to finish their first novel and getting distracted by all of their other shiny ideas, and so I wanted to talk a little about it.

First, before I say anything else, you have to know that for me and for many people, writing my first novel is probably the most difficult things I've ever done.

Read more… 782 more words

I can really relate to this post. Some stories I write are fairly well done, then I start going into stupid places, or my brain just stops, all around word 10,000 or so, and then it's bye-bye idea bazillion and one.
Hope this opened some of your eyes too ! Remember, never give up ~ Writings hard, but not impossible, so hang tight, and maybe one day I'll be reviewing one of your novels (;
Have fun reading & writing, all ~
